CHAPTER NINE: Palacio Poetry

"Oh, to be a queen in the Palacio Real de Aranjuez. Room after room unfurls like a fairytale: gilded doors, mirrored walls, chandeliers dripping in shameless delight. Here, extravagance isn’t a flourish — it’s a philosophy. Frescoes spill across ceilings, porcelain rooms preen and silk wallpapers shimmer. It’s opulence so theatrical it deserves a standing ovation."

CHAPTER EIGHT: Alhambra Alchemy

"Twilight hangs strange and weightless over Granada; the kind of light that unravels time. Inside the Alhambra's ancient walls, nothing competes, everything converses. Moorish arches, Christian crowns, Renaissance flourishes. Every corner holds another wonder: plaster spun into poetry, tiles painted like prayers, columns rising like invocations."

"It’s midsummer in Barcelona, and the city’s pulse ripples through my chest. Imagination spills into the streets: façades curve like silk in motion, mosaics shimmer like sea glass. Here, art isn’t a destination; it’s a presence. A balcony curve can feel like a question. A tiled bench can feel like a blessing. Even shadows seem to hold stories."

CHAPTER FIVE: Cosmopolitan Babylon

"The taste of granita al limonelingers. I sit, scribbling flashes of inspiration: gilded ceilings at Palacio Real, the colour-washed halls of Aranjuez, a hospital painted in joyful defiance, ceramics tumbling from stalls and alcoves. I can’t remember where one moment ended and another began; everything drifts into a beautiful mid-trip blur."

"The streets are perfumed with tea and herbs as I make my way to the Alcaicería. Red-rimmed baskets brim with a heady, intoxicating blend of spices: rooibos, vanilla, violets, chocolate. Embroidered shawls, hand-painted fans, and wooden boxes beckon from narrow lanes, like tiny treasures waiting to be claimed."

"High in the hills of Granada, I find a home among kindred spirits in the Sacromonte caves. I stand transfixed, as a dancer stamps her feet. The sound is thunderous. The dance moves through every inch of her body. Sweat beads. Tears spill. The rhythm presses in. This is El Duende — spirit, soul."
